PA Route 65

a.k.a. Frozen Custard Quest

First thing, I just want to write down a bit from May 13, 2001, which has been taking up space in my voice recorder for far too long.

I had headed out west of Pittsburgh, because I've explored east a whole lot. I traveled along the parkway, eventually got on Ohio River Blvd., and decided to just go straight, which meant that I would be following Route 65. Eventually, a thought came to me: I wanted frozen custard. Real frozen custard. Though I wasn't really in that picky a mood, just finding it at all can be difficult, especially if you're in an area that you aren't familiar with. However, that became my mission, made more difficult by my hesitation to leave Rt. 65; when I go exploring like that, I like doing it depth-first.

At any rate, I eventually came to an area, and noticed a Radio Shack. The battery in my empeg remote was flat, so I decided to go in and see if they had a replacement. Sure enough, they did. While I was there, I helped out a woman who was trying to buy a cellphone, and didn't understand what all the various plans and options were. Being that Radio Shack was affiliated with Sprint (aside) I encountered no resistance from the sales rep. there in describing how I liked my plan.

After making my purchase and leaving, I stopped at an ice cream place where I inquired of any local places to get frozen custard. I failed to learn anything pertaining to frozen custard, though the two girls manning the windows were very nice and apologetic.

A while later, I noticed an all-black (obviously not original colors) '58 corvette. Well, I'm not absolutely sure, but I felt it was a '58 or '59, even though it didn't have the original paint job. No one's ever going to know if I'm wrong, anyway.

So I went along in that way for a while, and eventually got to New Castle. I then proceeded to loose track of where Rt. 65 was going, so eventually I turned around and backtracked. Turns out, that I lost track of it because it had ended upon entering the town. So I made my way back, and was no further along in my quest, though I had successfully traversed all of Route 65.

I started to worry about some test or final that I remembered I was going to take, as I am wont to do, except that it wouldn't of course change the fact that I wasn't going to study much anyhow. As I neared Pittsburgh, I decided that I wasn't going to fail in my quest, and traveled to a frozen custard place (Boardwalk Custard) on the Golden Mile (Rt. 286) that I had patronized in the past, usually on the way to go bowling at Holiday Lanes with some friends. There I had some butter pecan frozen custard, and my desire was satisfied. I then proceeded home and checked email to decide whether or not I should be studying. I don't remember whether I was supposed to, but I can guess at what actually happened.
