Workout Log

March 22: I haven't actually been updating this log, though I've mentioned workouts occasionally on my livejournal. It's just ingrained into my routine at this point, so unless something really interesting comes up which is worth mentioning, I probably won't note it here. Although, there probably HAVE been a few noteworthy things I haven't written..everything has gone according to plan so far.

February 15: I still had a sore throat, but didn't feel like I had a fever anymore, so I went in to do a cardio day. I definitely wasn't feeling well, and my throat hurt as I was doing my bike routine, but I completed as expected. Sometime in the past few days I read about proper sit-up technique (I bought a fitness magazine! I have gone to the other side! Oh, I was buying a gym bag, that's right, and then it was out by the checkout counter...earlier that day, I had bought actual sneakers, as well as new shoes, and the sneakers basically live in the gym bag), and I corrected myself then. That caused me to have to move down to 25 rep sets, but I can again really feel the effectiveness in the proper muscles.

February 14: Today I was suffering from a sore throat, and running a fever. Upon the advice of my friend Camille, who has been working out for some time now, I didn't go into the gym today.

February 13: Slam-bam, great weight-lifting day today, lots of progress. I had a tiny tinge of feeling like I was coming down with something, which bore out the next day.

February 12: I again faltered this day, primarily because I was so irritated and upset about a situation where the guy who hit my car wasn't sending me a check, like he said he would. I went home and went to sleep. The next day, I tried calling him one more time in the morning, and he didn't answer, in fact, I expect he turned his cellphone off on me again. So I contacted his insurance company that day and submitted a claim. I still do not know if he's going to admit to the accident, but it's out of my hands now, the mistakes I made along the way cannot be helped. Next time, I'll be sure to get either witnesses or a police report.

February 6-11: Ho hum--took the planned day off on Saturday.

February 5, 2002: I missed this day. I don't remember the reasons, exactly, but I mention it because people get in a mode where they think that in order to make progress, they have to have huge amounts of will power, and they have to never make a mistake. That's not true. Self-discipline does not preclude mistakes--in fact, mistakes are assumed at some point. Nothing is more exhausting than perfection seeking; if it really isn't necessary, give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Self-discipline comes in when you get right back up the next day and do what you're supposed to do.

January 29-February 4: As expected.

January 28, 2002: Day off.

January 27, 2002: standard cardio day. Moved up to 50 reps on the sit-ups.

January 26, 2002: standard weight-lifting day. Did the 200 sit-ups in sets of 40 reps. Ran into Alisa while I was lifting--she was showing around her brother, who claimed to be able to lift the entire stack of 500lbs on the leg press machine. I doubted that, and was shown to be right.

January 25, 2002: standard non-weight-lifting day. Did the 200 sit-ups in sets of 30 reps.

January 24, 2002: standard weight-lifting day. Did the 200 sit-ups in sets of 25 reps.

January 23, 2002: standard non-weight-lifting day. Did the 200 sit-ups in sets of 20 reps.

January 22, 2002: standard non-weight-lifting day. Did the 200 sit-ups in sets of 20 reps. This was the first day I included sit-ups in my routine.

January 21, 2002: Day off.

January 20, 2002: old-style non-weight-lifting day, without the sit-ups.
